Is MCT oil made from coconut?
MCT stands for medium-chain triglycerides. MCT oil is made from the shortest fatty acids of coconut oil or palm kernel oil, joined back to glycerin. The pharmacopoeias define it as coming from one of those two oils.
It is sold as a supplement and used in powdered creamers, protein bars, infant and tube-feeding formulas, soft capsules and some medicines. Many labels say only “MCT” or “medium chain triglycerides” without naming the oil. Some name it: “MCT oil (from coconut)”.
